Massage Therapy & Cupping Treatment

Description

What is Cupping? Cupping is an ancient traditional Chinese medicine modality that has been practiced for centuries. Cupping improves circulation, decreases tension and adhesions, relaxes muscles, and encourages lymphatic drainage in the body. Reasons to avoid cupping: -Dry, cracked or sun burnt skin -Open wounds or ulcers -Fractured bones -Bleeding disorders -Varicose veins -Severe anemia -Blood thinner medication for blood clots -Pregnancy -Diabetes -Chemotherapy or radiation treatment Types of Cupping: Stationary - Pressure controlled by a vacuum pump and left in the same spot for 2-3 minutes. Dynamic Movement - Silicon cups used for gliding and lifting the tissue to break down adhesions. What Does Cupping Feel Like? Cupping uses negative pressure to pull and decompress tissue such as muscle and fascia. The lifting will cause discomfort but can be easily tolerated. Why Does Cupping Cause Bruising? Cupping will cause blood to rise to the surface of the skin and create bruising from the movement of blood. The bruise colour will depend on the level of stagnation which is caused by a lack of blood flow. The bruises will fade within 3-14 days, the more frequent you use the cups, the faster the marks will disappear.
